Petrol, firewood prices go up in Kabul

KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): The prices of firewood and petrol increased while that of flour and Arabia gold decreased during the just concluded week in capital Kabul, market sources said Saturday.

Sayed Islam, a firewood seller in Charahi Shahid square in Kabul city, told Pajhwok Afghan News the price of 560 kilograms of peeled oak increased from 6,600 afghanis to 6,800 afghanis and the price of the same quantity of cedar from 6,400afs to 6,600afs during the week.

He said the demand for firewood and its price increased after the air turned colder.

Abdul Hadi, a filling station worker in Wazirabad, said a liter of petrol price increased from 45afs to 46afs while of the same quantity of diesel stood at 42afs this week.

Ahmad Siar, a gas seller in Kolola Pushta area, that the price of a kilogram of the commodity stood at 50afs, the same price as of last week’s.

In food items, the price of only flour dipped. Food Traders Union head, Fazal Rahman, said the price of 49 kilograms of Kazakh flour dipped from 1,150afs to 1,140afs.

But he said 49 kilograms of Pakistani sugar cost 2,300afs, 16 liter of Khurshid ghee 1,100afs and 24.5kg of Pakistani rice 1,550afs, the same prices as of last week’s.

Haji Rahmatullah, a tea seller in Kabul Mandavi, sold a kilogram of Madina green tea for 240afs and the same amount of African black tea for 260afs.

But a retailer in Taimani area, Ahmad Sharif, sold a 49kg bag of Kazakh flour for 1,220afs, a 49-kg sack of sugar for 2,400afs and a 24.5-kg bag of rice for 1,700afs.

He sold a 16-liter tin of Khurshid ghee for 1,180afs, a kilo of Madina green tea for 280afs and the same quantity of African black tea for 300afs -- higher than wholesale prices.

Mohammad Fawad, a jeweller in Timor Shahi area of Kabul, said the price of one gram of Arabian gold decreased from 2,250afs to 2,200afs while the same amount of Russian variety stood at 1,700afs.

According to Saray Shahzada Moneychangers Union, the buying rate of one US dollar was 66.84afs while 1,000 Pakistani rupees accounted for 614afs. Last week's exchange value of the dollar stood at 66.82afs and 1,000 Pakistani rupees at 615afs.
